Accessibility Statement

You On Earth is committed to providing a web site that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our web site and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

Web Accessibility Initiative

This web site endeavours to conform to level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.

These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly for all people.

W3C Standards

This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for XHTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant XHTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.

Exceptions

Whilst You On Earth strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the web site.

We have not included place holding text in the edit boxes of our forms, as it is now known that this is less helpful than was originally the case when WCAG 1.0 were published. For similar reasons, we have not included non-link characters between adjacent links, as technology has moved on since the guidelines were written, and this no longer represents a problem for users.

We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall accessibility. So, if you should experience any difficulty in accessing the You On Earth website, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Increase Text Size

If you find the text on this site is too small, you can change it easily in your browser settings. To do this you should simply adjust your browser's settings.

  • If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Larger or Largest.
  • If you use Mozilla Firefox, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Increase (Control +) or Decrease Control -).

Changing Colours

Changing the site's background colour can be particularly useful for users who rely on magnification technology as some colours can produce an uncomfortable glare.

It is also possible to change the colour of body text on the site.

Both can be achieved by changing preferences in your browser:

  • If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select Colours and make changes to text and background colours in the Colours panel.
  • If you are using Mozilla Firefox, go to the Tools menu, select Options, select the Content tab, then the Colours button and make changes to the colours.
